High Hopes For Territory Days Economic Boost

Hopes are high that a Colorado Springs tradition is boosting the economy again this year. Good weather is making territory days a success – and high gas prices are bringing an added bonus. The festival was full all weekend and is wrapping up tonight.

There was tasty festival food, face painting, and even dance lessons. Vendors were selling and the public was buying.

Steven Hayes has been coming to Territory Days for the last five years and now daughter Emma tags along, too. He thinks the crowds are bigger this year.

“Definitely a lot more people here. It’s nice and warm, so people are getting out of the house,” said Hayes.

The high gas prices might have kept more people in town for the holiday weekend.

“Maybe a little bit, yeah. It’s something fun and local to do,” said Hayes.

Between listening to bands and fighting to get through the crowds plenty of people are making it to Mary Rugg’s booth. She sells hats.

“It’s been grand. I’ve had lots of fun,” said Rugg.

Her shop is in Nederland, Colorado. That is two hours ways, but her first trip to Territory Days has been financially worth her while.

“It was great. I had a great experience, and it has been rewarding for my business as well,” said Rugg.

For longtime jewelry designer Denise Algueseva– business was been good too.

“It’s always great to see the crowds come out and support us here,” said Algueseva.

As vendors break down their booths Monday evening, they hope next year will be just as good.

The annual festival ended Monday night at 6pm.
