Pueblo police seize $85,000

Pueblo police went to the scene of a shooting and found thousands of $100 bills.

The cash totaled close to $100,000.

It’s far from pocket change. Lots of cash was seized Saturday evening.

Monday morning, police counted $85,000.

The money was seized along with stolen guns and drugs in the 2100 block of East 7th Street.

Police said it started when 34-year-old Jose Bernal was firing a gun into the air.

“When the call starts out ‘shots fired,’ as many officers, anyone who is available, usually goes. When you have a weapon, it’s a high-priority call,” said Sgt. Eric Gonzales.

Officers arrested Bernal, who confessed to firing the gun.

Police were unable to say why Bernal was firing his weapon or if he was sober.
