Tulo and Helton Homer in Loss to Mariners

Kendrys Morales and Justin Smoak homered and the Seattle Mariners beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 Saturday in their final spring tuneup

Morales, who played for the Los Angeles Angels’ Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City from 2006-2008, ripped a fastball over the left center fence in the top of the fourth inning and Smoak went deep in the fifth to help the Mariners finish with the best spring training record in team history at 22-11.

Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton both hit solo home runs to chase Brandon Maurer, who is slated to be Seattle’s fourth starter. The Rockies had the bases loaded in the eighth after Jordan Ribera’s single scored David Kandilas and trimmed the lead to a run before Raul Ibanez caught Jonathan Herrera’s line drive to end the inning.
