Helicopter crews would fly day, night

Pueblo Memorial Airport could become a new training ground for Fort Carson helicopter crews beginning in spring of 2014.

Fort Carson leaders met with people in Pueblo Thursday night to talk about the plan. The Army says it would not fly over Pueblo city limits. The plan is to fly northwest of Pueblo and Pueblo West at 3,000 feet. Most of the flying would be during the day. There would be some missions at night.

“We want to do that without it causing any safety issues and any noise complaints to the civilians,” said Lt. Col. Heather Lentz.

Lentz says training in Pueblo could generate up to $300,000 into Pueblo’s economy.
