Women joining female-only gun clubs

A local gun group is giving women the opportunity to learn and practice safe shooting techniques.

The Colorado Springs chapter of A Girl and A Gun was founded in the summer of 2012. Now, it has 38 members.

“It’s a sisterhood,” club member Deanna Ward said. “We come here, and we meet together, and we are a true sisterhood.”

The women meet, shoot, and help each other become better shooters. They said learning from each other is the best way to learn.

“They teach you certain techniques because they understand what a woman’s muscle mass is like,” Ward said. “We’re different from men, so when men teach women, they don’t teach us in a womanly way.”

The club’s members learn how to be comfortable shooting guns, so that if they ever need to shoot to protect themselves, they’re ready. But the women said the club is also about having fun and boosting confidence.
