Traffic stop turns into chase Thursday morning

Colorado Springs police made an arrest Thursday morning after a traffic stop turned into a pursuit.

Police tell us officers attempted to stop a car near Circle Drive and Winnipeg Drive shortly before 2 Thursday morning.

The driver refused to stop but police say they didn’t pursue the driver because of road conditions.

A short time later, police located the car near Circle Drive and Ellingwood Drive. Police attempted to stop the car again. The suspect led officers on a brief pursuit until once again they stopped because of road conditions.

Another officer attempted to stop the vehicle near Monterey and Hancock Expressway. The driver drove away recklessly and was involved in a crash on the ramp to southbound Circle Drive from Hancock Expressway.

After a brief foot chase, the suspected driver was taken into custody.

Police later identified the man as Steve West.

He’s facing numerous traffic charges.
