Dorothea Briers’ home makeover revealed
A home makeover for a disabled Colorado Springs woman is complete.
On Saturday, Dorothea Briers’ saw her house for the first time since the project began in early December.
Family, friends and some of the people who helped out on the project were present to greet Briers’ as she got of a limousine blindfolded.
Once everyone gathered around, the blindfold came off and her face lit up. Briers’ smile stretched from ear to ear as she yelled with joy.
“That ain’t my house,” said Briers.
As the realty of her new home sunk in, Briers began to cry and thanked Jesus.
Steve Caldwell, owner of Stonegate homes, was the contractor who headed up the project. His office received thousands of phone calls of people wanting to help. In all, around 100 people chipped in to finish Briers’ home in just 30 days.
“It turned out a lot better than I ever dreamed it would,” said Caldwell.
Briers’ home was completely remodeled. Everything from the drywall and flooring to the handicap accessible stairs and bathroom. Briers’ said it’s like nothing she ever imagined.
“Thank you for everything. You made my dreams come true,” said Briers.
Caldwell has dedicated this home to his son, Shawn, who passed away last year.

Since the story aired, the community support has been even greater.Colorado Custom Decks has further donated to get additional items still needed, but never asked for, for Dorothea’s house.
This is a message Stonegate received from Colorado Custom Decks:
“Thank you and your Company for enriching the life of such a woman. I think that your taking on this endeavor was purely heartfelt and amazing, having nothing to do with benefiting yourself. I respect you for your DILIGENCE!!! You were not a nap:) You were simply seeking to make someone less fortunate than you & start their New Year i a comfortable way, and doing it with fervor. I admire that. Again, thank you for your selfless, awesome work in our community.”
If we have forgotten to recognize anyone that helped on this project, we apologize because that is not our intention. Please send an email to s.anderson@krdo.com if that is the case.
