Lamar student arrested after making threats to middle school

Officers from the Lamar Police Department received information on Tuesday that a juvenile was making threats of violence towards the Middle School in Lamar, police said in a news release.

Officers responded and school authorities were advised of the situation, according to the release.

The juvenile has been charged with Interference with staff, faculty or students of an educational institution which is a class one misdemeanor, police said.

Lamar police say that in approximately 80% of the school shootings in America at least one person had information that the attacker was thinking about or planning the school attack. As a result of the early notification from the public, the police investigation and intervention by the school officials in this case a troubled individual was identified and removed from the student population.
