Suspected car thief stops to ask deputies for directions

A woman is arrested accused of driving a stolen car is arrested after she stopped to ask a Fremont County Sheriff’s deputy for directions.

Fremont County officials said Brandi Jones, 43, stopped by the sheriff’s substation in Cotopaxi and asked an officials for directions to an address in the Copper Gulch area.

Minutes after she left the substation, deputies said they were alerted of a report of a stolen BMW which matched the description of the car Jones was driving.The car was stolen during a burglary in Colorado Springs on Dec. 2.

The deputy quickly caught up with Jones on County Road 1A and pulled her over, officials said.

Officials said they arrested Jones on charges of aggravated motor vehicle theft and possession of a controlled substance. Three passengers in the car were released without charges, officials said.
