Springs police officer injured in traffic stop

A Colorado Springs police officer was taken to the hospital after being hit in a traffic stop. The driver was apparently trying to get away from police.

The officer was treated and released from the hospital.

It happened in the area of E. Fillmore St. and Illinois Ave. around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Police said they were trying to make contact with a suspicious car. They suspected the car had stolen license plates.

Officers tried to pull the car over, but the driver, Stephanie Murillo, 29, sped off and police chased her.

According to police, she crashed her car and then took off on foot.

Police said Murillo faces charges of third-degree assault and harassment.
