Control of Colo. Legislature up for grabs

DENVER (AP) — Control of the Colorado Legislature is up for grabs as Republicans try to hang onto the House and Democrats try to keep control of the Senate.

Republicans are clinging to a one-seat majority in the House. Democrats have a bigger cushion in the Senate, where they have a five-seat advantage.

But both parties see opportunities for power shifts. Republicans say the Senate is within reach and Democrats say they can retake the House after two years in the minority.

Control of the Legislature will have an impact on tax policy, civil unions for gay couples and the state budget.

Many races the parties say will determine control of each chamber are in Denver’s suburbs, including Jefferson, Arapahoe and Adams counties.
