Dr. Jill Biden’s Colorado Springs campaign stop

Second Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, was in Colorado Springs on Monday pushing the Obama-Biden ticket. Dr. Biden is Vice President Joe Biden’s wife. She also has a doctorate with a focus on education. Dr. Biden was in front of a friendly crowd at Colorado College.

She reminded the group of the current administration’s promises kept to students and their parents. She reinforced to them the importance of doubling Pell Grant funding and student loan reforms. Dr. Biden said, “As a teacher I want to make sure we invest in quality education. That’s why I’m so grateful to President Obama and husband, Joe to move forward on the issue of education.”

Dr. Biden also talked about abortion rights. She reinforced to the crowd that one, possibly two U.S. Supreme Court Justices could be appointed by the next president. She said, “We’ve fought so hard for Roe V Wade for access to contraception and equal rights. We don’t want our daughters and granddaughters to fight those battles we fought, so long ago. We’ve come so far but we have to keep moving forward.”

I spoke with some of the people in the crowd after her roughly 14 minute speech. CC Student, Rachel Maremont said Dr. Biden’s speech was inspirational, “Just emphasizing the president has people’s backs, especially young people’s backs.”

Linda Watkins told me, “Dr. Biden’s speech was wonderful. She was so uplifting.”

After Dr. Biden’s speech in Colorado Springs, she was whisked away to Fort Collins for another campaign stop.
