FirstBank closing 15 branches in Colorado

FirstBank has announced it is closing 15 branches in Colorado because most customers are changing the way they bank.

Two locations in Colorado Springs are closing. The FirstBank at the intersection of Powers and Stetson Hills boulevards and the location in the King Soopers store at North 19th and West Uintah streets will close Oct. 12.

Bank officials said ATMs will remain available at those locations, but the branches will no longer be staffed because of a lack of foot traffic.

Ron Tilton with FirstBank said that the closures are not an indication of a loss in business. In fact, he said FirstBank has expanded and grown. The bank announced plans to open several new branches, including one in Glenwood Springs and one in Chandler, Ariz.

Tilton said that these changes are the way of the future in banking because of the popularity of online banking and the convenience of using smartphones and laptops.

He emphasized that bank tellers will not be losing their jobs. Tellers have been reassigned and will most likely be assisting customers on the phone or online.

FirstBank Holding Co. has about 125 branches in Colorado, Arizona and California and held nearly $11 billion in deposits at the end of June.
