Man charged in assault, puppy’s kicking

Colorado Springs police have arrested a man who they say kicked a puppy and tried to stab someone with a fork.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of North Murray Boulevard.

Police said that 42-year-old John Myers began an argument with 56-year-old Donald Hearn. During the confrontation, Myers kicked Hearn’s puppy and pushed Hearn down the stairs. Myers then tried to stab Hearn with a fork but missed, according to police.

Hearn was able to get away with his dog. Myers ran after them but fell and hit his head on some rocks, police said.

Myers was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Hearn suffered minor scrapes as a result of the fall. The condition of the puppy was not immediately released by police.

Myers will be charged with misdemeanor assault and animal cruelty.
