Colorado man, Virginia woman dead in NM crash

A Colorado man and a Virginia woman have died in a fiery New Mexico highway crash.

New Mexico state police say the crash happened on Interstate 40 near the eastern New Mexico town of Santa Rosa late Saturday night. A semi-truck rear-ended a passenger car and then crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another large truck. The first truck overturned and caught fire.

The driver of the car was killed. State police spokesman Robert McDonald identified him Sunday as 71-year-old Jay Posner of Morrison, Colo.

A woman sleeping in the overturned truck also died. She’s identified as 50-year-old Brenda Hamm of Monroe, Va. The driver was her husband, 52-year-old Lawrence Hamm of Monroe. He’s hospitalized with serious burns and a broken leg.

The second semi-truck’s driver wasn’t hurt.
