3 arrested for firing shots in Trinidad

Three people were arrested Tuesday for their connection to illegally firing a gun Friday in Trinidad.

According to our news partners at the Pueblo Chieftain, 27-year-old Leonard Castillo was charged with violation of a restraining order, prohibited use of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct. All four charges are misdemeanors.

Chris Amanda Garcia, 31, was charged with accessory to a crime (class 1 petty offense), and conspiracy (class 3 misdemeanor).

Joseph Trujillo, 25, was charged with accessory to a crime (class 1 petty offense).

All three suspects have posted bond.

According to a news release from the Trinidad Police Department, the Trinidad Communications Center received multiple calls of shots fired in the 1500 block of North Linden at approximately 8:20 p.m. last Friday.

Officers found and approached a black SUV with the trio inside. The group claimed that they had been shot at by another man in a yellow shirt.

Garcia, Castillo and Trujillo all denied having fired a gun and denied having a weapon in the vehicle.

However, officers were able to locate a handgun in plain view under the driver’s seat.

Based on statements made by several witnesses, all three parties were taken into custody and transported to the Las Animas County Jail.

The case is still being investigated and more charges could be pending, according to police.
