East Gate reopened at Peterson AFB after false alarm

The East Gate at Peterson Air Force Base is now open after a piece of soil testing equipment came under question for possible radiation.

Peterson Air Force Base officials tell KRDO NewsChannel 13 that someone attempted to enter base to do soil testing. Gate security officers questioned a piece of equipment due to radiation. The East Gate was closed while officials sorted out the issue.

Base officials tell us that the soil tester did have permission to be on base and the equipment had been pre-approved. Approval had not reached gate security and the person did not have the correct paperwork to prove the equipment was legitimate and harmless.

The gate has been reopened and all operations have returned to normal.
