Obesity impacting the military

Anew report says 25 percent of young Americans who are potential recruits for the military are simply too fat to fight. The problem is potentially so serious commanders of all ranks who spearheaded the study describe it as a potential threat to national security.

Rear Adm. Jamie Barnett was warned of the problem two years ago. Military leaders say the problem is reversible. They’re now targeting school lunch programs and vending machines, trying to regulate unhealthy food and lower average student weight.

The nation’s leaders are hoping to stem the child obesity crisis so it doesn’t become what they believe could be a national security crisis.
