Good Samaritan stabbed at Springs clothing store

A good Samaritan is seriously hurt after being stabbed at a Colorado Springs clothing store Saturday afternoon.

Police said at around 4:30 p.m., they were called to Plato’s Closet at the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Galley Road near the Citadel Mall.

Customers at the consignment shop told KRDO Newschannel 13 that a man started getting aggressive with sales clerks, saying he wanted his money back. They said the man had gone behind the counter when another customer stepped in.

“A gentleman, just out of nowhere, a pretty good sized guy, just immediately tackled him to the ground behind the counter,” said witness Angela Fox. “At that point, they were getting people out of the store as quickly as they could and someone was on the phone calling for help.”

After the stabbing, police said they had help getting their guy.

“Several customers in the store did help restrain the suspect until officers arrived,” said Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Darrin Abbink.

Abbink said it’s not clear if the suspect was a disgruntled customer or someone attempting a robbery.

He commended store employees for their handling of the situation.

“I think the employees did really, really well,” Abbink said. “They took care of their customers.”

Police said the victim was stabbed in the back and the arm, and went through surgery soon after he was taken to the hospital. No other updates on the man’s condition have been made available.

Witnesses said it appeared the man was with his wife and daughter at the store, and said the girl started screaming and crying after the fight broke out.

Police say the suspect is 21-year-old Dwight Dimes.

Dimes was booked into CJC on charges of 1st Degree Assault and Aggravated Robbery.

Officers say the 31-year-old victim is expected to survive his injuries.
