Car nearly hits building at Camelot Apartments

A car nearly barreled into a Colorado Springs apartment complex building Thursday.

It happened just after police officers tried to pull that car over near Airport Road and Murray Boulevard.

Police said they let the car speed away and minutes later it lost control and ran off the road.

“I was thinking these people are crazy,” said Leslie Parrales, a resident of Camelot Apartments.

Her family lives in the same building that was nearly smashed into by the runaway car.

“I thought, ‘Oh God!’ because it was so close to hitting us but thank God we’re upstairs,” said Parrales.

Two men in the car tried to run off but they were quickly caught. One man was arrested and the other taken to the hospital with apparent injuries.

Police said it all could have been avoided.

“It’s always in you best interest just to talk to the police,” said Sgt. Josh Benner with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

It’s not clear what charges the two men in the car will face other than eluding police.

“We don’t know why they ran yet at this point, but they’re OK and we’re going to question them,” said Benner.
