Taylor Barn could move to Flying W Ranch

The Flying W Ranch’s reputation for saving old buildings could help preserve some local history in danger of being lost.

The barn at Taylor’s Acre, a local farm established in 1960 at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Templeton Gap Road, is scheduled to be torn down soon to make way for a new medical office building. The area already has many similar facilities.

The ranch, even though its own future is uncertain after damage by the Waldo Canyon wildfire, announced it will try to save the barn and relocate it to the ranch if the ranch decides to rebuild.

“There’s a lot of hoops to jump through,” said ranch spokesman Aaron Winter. “We don’t know exactly how much it’ll cost to move it. We don’t even know if we can pull the proper permits to do it. We don’t know if the owners will sell it to us.”

Winter said the ranch may not have the money to save the barn, and hopes a donor who treasures local history will come forward to help.

Chad Schmitt,, a neighbor who lives near the barn, said he doesn’t like the influx of medical and senior facilities in the neighborhood and is glad the ranch is getting involved.

“I think it’s be a great idea,” he said of the possibility of the barn moving to the ranch. “People can go see it whenever they want. It’s a local treasure.
