Wildlife safety around your home

A new problem may be cropping around your home, post Waldo Canyon wildfire. There is more wildlife you may be seeing because the creatures were scurrying away for safety and now they are looking for food.

One sure way to keep them and you safe is to have window well covers installed around your home. Wildlife expert Scott Coddington showed me a recent video where a skunk momma and her babies fell into an open window well. Scott got sprayed for his troubles to save them but the skunk family is okay. He compared window wells to this, “It’s a death trap for wildlife. they can cause a lot of damage if they get stuck.”

Coddington says, “It’s really sad with skunks because we are not allowed to transport, relocate or rehabilitate them. However, as long as we remove and keep them in the same yard, we’re following the law. If they get sick or dehydrated in the window well, there’s really nothing we can do about them.”

Scott Coddington is a wildlife expert with nearly 14 years of experience in the field. He is also a volunteer with the wild forever foundation.
