Deadly rollover crash at Academy and Union

A 21-year-old woman is dead after a rollover accident near Academy and Union.

According to police at the scene, the driver (who’s name is being withheld for now) was traveling north on Union Blvd. when she swerved to avoid hitting a stalled car.

She over-steered, hit the median, then crashed into a utility light pole, snapping it off and rolling her SUV in the process.

Officers say she died en route to a local hospital.

The driver was by herself; earlier reports that there was a child in the car were unfounded. Police also tell NewsChannel 13 that she was unbuckled.

All southbound lanes of Union were closed while officials investigated the scene of the accident.
