Machete murder trial delayed

The trial of a teenager charged in the slaying of a man who authorities said was hacked to death by either a hatchet or machete in Colorado Springs has been postponed, while defense attorneys mull a possible insanity plea.

District Judge David A. Gilbert ruled Friday that 19-year-old Jordan Rowland may
temporarily withdraw his not-guilty plea, pending Rowland’s decision on whether to deny the charge by reason of insanity.

A new trial date has not been set.

Authorities said the teen was arrested in August with 20-year-old victim William Mickle’s severed finger in his pocket.

Meanwhile, 36-year-old Roger Julius Glover also is charged with first-degree murder for allegedly soliciting the Aug. 16 slaying.

The coroner said Mickle suffered more than 20 chop wounds to his
face.

Glover’s trial is set for Nov. 5.
