Safety Awards Ceremony Recognizes Local Heroes

The 2012 Pikes Peak Community College Public Safety Awards Ceremony honored twenty individuals for their outstanding achievements and selfless actions.

KRDO Newschannel 13 talked with one award recipient, who was recognized for saving the life of a fellow disabled student in October.

Cody McCullough was tutoring the student when she began choking on an apple.

?When I turned around and noticed her choking, I just started moving,? he said.

McCullough performed the Heimlich maneuver on the student until she began breathing again. McCullough said he attributes his actions to his time served in the military. McCullough served as an Army Cavalry Scout, 19 Delta prior to enrolling at Pikes Peak Community College. Through the Army, McCullough served on two tours to Iraq.

?I do credit a lot of my motivation and everything I?ve done from my military service,? McCullough said.

When asked how he felt about being recognized as a hero, McCullough responded, ?I just call it doing my job.?
