CDOT Funding: Mayor Wants Fair Share

The Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus is asking the Colorado Department of Transportation for it’s fair share of transportation funding.

The caucus sent a letter to C-DOT on Thursday expressing concern over the percentage the region is supposed to receive.

Over the last six years, the region’s portion of the statewide funding has been 7.06%, it’s suppose to be higher, according to the letter.

“The region has a memorandum of understanding called a MOU with C-DOT. We should be getting 9.48% of all C-DOT funding which is really pretty low in my opinion given we are the most populous county in the state,” said Mayor Steve Bach.

Bach is one of eleven Mayors in the region who signed the letter.

The letter explains what the Pikes Peak Region could have done with the money, if the six year average had been 9.48%. There would have been over $135 million in additional funding available to the Pikes Peak Region, according to the letter.

“We could have already improved the Cimarron interchange which is needed for safety and convenience. We could have already improved the Fillmore and I-25 interchange,” said Bach.

The Mayor said he is grateful to C-DOT for all its help this year. The Pikes Peak region received $96 million, 10.27% of the budget, to widen I-25.

Bach said he just wants the percentage that was agreed upon to be the same each year.

He is hoping the caucus and C-DOT officials will meet soon to resolve the issue.
