Bears Visit Homeowner’s Garage

A momma bear and her cub have a Northwest Colorado Springs neighborhood on alert. The bears were spotted inside a homeowner’s garage on Moccasin Pass Court.

“I could hear my neighbor’s kids screaming wondering what they were supposed to do,” said Misti Baumberger who got an alarming call from her neighbors from across the street. The neighbor was calling, because there were two bears in her garage and she didn’t know what to do.

“The bear was standing right there by her refrigerator in the garage,” said Baumberger. A black bear and a cub were digging through a neighbor’s trash can inside the garage.

“The momma bear just kind of hissed at her, and my neighbor shut the door. Meanwhile, the baby bear was actually in the trash can, eating trash,” said Baumberger.

The bears were fearless. “My neighbor was clanging pots and pans trying to get rid of them. The bears just kind of looked at her for a minute and then went back to eating garbage,” said Baumberger.

Eventually the bears did leave. Baumberger says she’s thankful, no one was hurt. “The bears were walking behind the houses, sauntered across the street, and went up into the bluffs,” said Baumberger.
