Website Links Up Military Pets With Foster Homes

A website seeks to help military members who are struggling to find foster homes for their pets while deployed.

Dogs on Deployment links up military members with potential foster families who have been screened and are willing to take care of pets during a deployment.

According to the Pikes Peak Humane Society, there are many military members who are forced to give up their pets in southern Colorado because they cannot find suitable foster homes.

Erika Meyer with the Humane Society said she thinks the program is a wonderful opportunity for the community to step up and help military while also providing a means for military members to reunite with their beloved pets.

She said she thinks there would be many families willing to foster a pet, especially for a military member serving overseas.

According to the website, the pet owner is financially responsible for their pet’s food, vet visits, etc. However, a foster family is not allowed to ask for any sort of boarding fee.
