Body Found Near Academy And Chelton ID’d
Colorado Springs police have identified a body that was found in the median on Academy just south of Chelton Rd.
The victim is 68-year-old Antonio Camarillo Gallegos. His family has been notified.
Someone driving on Academy reported seeing the man on the street around 6:15 a.m.
“They observed what they believed to be a body laying in the roadway,” said Lt. Brian Ritz, with the Colorado Springs police department.
According to police, Gallegos may have been trying to cross Academy to get to the bus stop, which was just yards away from where his body was found.
Police tell us there’s no indication that it’s a homicide.
“Right now, it appears to be simply an accident,” said Ritz. “It could be a mirror strike. It could be a semi. It could be anything. He may have fallen in the roadway and they may never have seen him. The options are open at this point.”
The Major Accident Unit is working on this investigation.
“At this time, the investigation is being conducted as a possible hit and run accident,” said Ritz.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area around 6:00 a.m. and saw a man walking or being struck by a vehicle to please call CSPD at 719-444-7000.
