Man Charged With Attempted Murder Turns Himself In

A southern Colorado man charged with attempted murder has turned himself in.

Police said 24-year-old Elijah Sanchez is now in custody.

He was charged with attempted second-degree murder after a domestic violence incident on March 31, according to Police Chief Bill Lucero.

Police believe he was suicidal.

?After the incident he sustained self-inflicted injuries,? said Lucero.

He was taken to a Denver hospital to recover and hadn?t been back to Center until Wednesday morning.

Court documents show he has a slew of other charges out of Alamosa County.

?They were pretty serious charges,? said Lucero.

He was charged with attempted murder in the first degree after stabbing a man back in 2010.

?He just took a plea out of another county where he was scheduled to be sentenced,? said Lucero.

The terms of the plea deal dropped his attempted murder charge and replaced it with assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.

Sanchez will be sentenced on his 2010 charges in May.
