Sign Up For Emergency Alerts On Your Cell Phone

The importance of emergency preparedness has been highlighted by the recent wildfires in Colorado.

Most cities and counties have a reverse emergency notification system, sometimes called reverse 911, that calls your home phone when there is a fire or other emergency situation.

But many times you can also get notifications on your cell phone — if you sign up.

The following is a list of southern Colorado counties with a link to sign up for their emergency notification program:

Costilla County

Crowley County

Custer County; No alert system. Check website.

Douglas County

El Paso County

Elbert County

Fremont County

Huerfano County

Kiowa County

Las Animas — No cell phone alerts.

Lincoln County — No cell phone alerts.

Otero County

Park County

Prowers County

Pueblo County

Rio Grande County

Saguache County
