Alonzo Paige Turns Himself In

A man sought by Colorado Springs police for more than a month in the shooting of four people has turned himself in.

Police said Alonzo Paige, 20, aka “Baby Wiz,” turned himself in at the Police Operations Center on South Nevada Avenue around 3 p.m. Thursday. Police said he’ll be charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators had an arrest warrant and had been actively searching for Paige. His mother and two brothers made an emotional appeal for his surrender in an interview with KRDO NewsChannel 13 after the Jan. 24 shooting.

After the crime, officers arrived at the Timberlane Apartments, 3985 E. Bijou St., near the North Academy Boulevard intersection. Officers found two men dead and two others injured.

Marquise Bean, 20, and Andrew Encalade, 23, died in the shooting. Jareem Vanterpool, 21, and Adam Encalade, 26, Andrew’s brother, were treated for gunshot wounds.

The motive for the shooting is unclear. Police said they planned to release no further details Thursday.

On Friday afternoon, Paige will be advised of the charges against him.
