Uzbek Refugee Due In Denver Court In Terror Case

A refugee from Uzbekistan who’s accused of helping a terrorist organization is back in Colorado.

Jamshid Muhtorov of Aurora, Colo. was arrested at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Jan. 21 and is due to make his first appearance in federal court in Denver on Thursday.

He’s accused of providing material support and attempting to provide material support to the Islamic Jihad Union. The violent group opposes the Uzbek government and has been designated a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department.

If convicted, Muhtorov faces at least 15 years in federal prison, and a fine of up to $250,000. Muhtorov remains in federal custody and was transported to Colorado by the U.S. Marshals.
