Sheriff Upset Over Expensive Political Visits

With the political season heating up around Colorado, at least one local lawman says it’s time for candidates to step up and help defray the costs of their visists.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said Thursday the cost of providing security for a four- to six-hour event can often exceed $25,000.

He says he will start billing campaigns to help with the overtime and other costs associated with providing safety.

Robinson says campaigns that spend big money on advertising should be willing to pay for security, too.

He says all campaigns will be billed for costs including personnel and equipment. He didn’t say what he would do if campaigns refused to pay.
