Pueblo House Fire Victim Identified

A house fire in Pueblo has killed one person and injured another.

The fire began around 12:30 p.m. in a historic home on the corner of Jackson St. and Evans. Firefighters 65-year-old Joseph Prutch and a woman were inside the home when a fire started in the basement and spread to the first floor. The house was heavily damaged by smoke.

The woman told firefighters that Prutch was trying to find cats inside the house. However, firefighters say this report is unfounded and there is no evidence that occurred. Prutch was in the basement at the time of the fire and was found dead by firefighters. The woman was taken to the hospital for observation. At least one of three reported cats in the home has been confirmed dead.

The home has been deemed unlivable by fire crews. ACOVA has been called in to assist the female occupant of the home.
