Crews Monitoring Small Wildfire

A small wildfire was burning in the Cheyenne Canyon area of Southwest Colorado Springs Sunday.

The St. Peters Fire is estimated to be less than 1 acre in size.

It took crews several hours to reach the fire because of it’s remote location, about 2 miles from the intersection of Gold Camp Road and Old Stage Road.

The fire is believed to be human caused, because there haven’t been any thunderstorms in the area recently.

Firefighters warn that grass and brush in our area is dry and ripe for spreading wildfires thanks to recent high winds and dry conditions.

Firefighters at the scene told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that two crews will stay on scene overnight. The firefighters from Colorado Springs and the U.S. Forest Service will work to ensure it doesn’t spread.

Efforts to extinguish the fire will resume after sunrise on Monday (1/23).
