UPDATE: Pikes Peak Ave. Back Open After Water Main Break

Water has been restored to 30 homes and 10 businesses after a water main broke in Colorado Springs Saturday morning.

East Pikes Peak Avenue was closed at Farragut Avenue near N. Union Boulevard for much of the morning.

The break was reported around 4 a.m. Saturday.

It has since reopened, but the road has not yet been repaired. Crews used compacted rock and gravel as a temporary fix. If you can avoid the area through the weekend, it would be smart to do so because rocks could hit windshields.

Crews said they will not be able to repave the roadway until weather conditions improve.

Water shot into the air for hours Saturday morning while crews looked for a way to shut it off.

Colorado Springs Utilities said it was difficult to find the valve because it had been paved over.
