Ex-Boy Scout Volunteer Faces Child Sex Assault Charges

Authorities in Longmont arrest a man identified as James “Butch” Cahill, 56 on two charges of sex assault on a child.

Commander of detectives Jeff Satur said the investigation started in March, and that there are 4 victims in Longmont.

Satur said police would not be releasing a photo of Cahill at this time because the investigation is ongoing.

During Longmont investigation detectives found that Cahill was once a volunteer at the San Isabel Scout Ranch for 10 years. As a result investigators sent a letter to the parents of boy scouts that spent at the ranch while Cahill volunteered there to determine if there are any other possible victims. In the letter police said they believe Cahill may have victimized children between the ages of 6 and 14-year-old.

The Boulder County District Attorney’s office confirms Cahill is currently free on $100,000 bond and that his next court date is scheduled for Jan. 13 2012.
