UPDATE: Water Main Break On Springs’ East Side

A major water main break has utilities crews asking the public to avoid the area of San Miguel and Murray on Friday.

Water was restored to customers who lost water overnight around 11 a.m. Friday.

Water is flowing from a breakage that began just after 7:00pm.

Eyewitnesses told police “it was like a geyser”.

Steve Barry of Colorado Springs Utilities says 10 customers were without water until later this morning.

As of 10:30 Friday morning, the intersection will remain closed (with some periodic through lane availability) through 5 or 6 p.m.

Barry says that most of the neighborhood northeast of the Citadel is served by plumbing that dates back to the 60’s, and it’s not too uncommon to see corrosion lead to these types of breaks.
