Shots Fired At Citadel Mall; No One Hit

At least one shot was fired in the parking lot of Citadel Mall outside the Burlington Coat Factory on Friday afternoon, Colorado Springs police said.

Officers said Randall Pearl Jr., 31, called police making suicidal statements, saying he was armed with a handgun and threatening responding officers. Police said that as they arrived, Pearl fired one round inside his parked truck, but no one was hit.

Officers were able to apprehend Pearl, and he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Police are investigating the case and are not sure if Pearl went to the mall intending to confront someone. They are also investigating whether he threatened anyone else at the mall.

Mall security briefly locked down the nearest entrances and exits.

Police said Pearl will be charged with four counts of first-degree assault because he threatened officers at the scene.
