Performance Honors Generations of Veterans

A performance over the Veterans Day weekend in Palmer Lake honors several generations of soldiers.

Vets that served in wars dating back to World War II are sharing the spotlight for the “Wisdom Within These Walls: In Uniform” performance. It gives the audience an opportunity to hear soldiers’ stories that stretch back through the Cold War.

Joe Annello, who retired from the Army after two decades of service, said it took years for him to open up about his prisoner of war experience in Korea.

“Up until six years ago, I didn’t share them,” said Annello.

Now, he does share his memories with school kids and even gave a speech to seniors at the Air Force Academy because he said those who listen are a captive audience.

“They had grandparents who were in the Korean War like myself,” said Annello. “They didn’t speak about it, so (the kids) want to learn. They’re eager to learn.”

There are two more opportunities to catch the presentation this weekend, on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets start are $15 for most adults, $12 for seniors and children and $10 for veterans.
