Gas Leak On Tutt Blvd. Repaired

Firefighters said there was a minor natural gas leak Friday in the 4000 block of Tutt Boulevard near the intersection of North Carefree Circle in Colorado Springs.

As a precaution, the fire department’s hazmat unit responded. Firefighters said the leak came from one of several high-pressure lines in the area and tripped a valve at an access station. A passerby smelled gas and notified authorities, firefighters said.

Even a minor leak, firefighters said, could cause fumes to accumulate underground among businesses in the area, which was why the hazmat unit remained until Colorado Springs Utilities repaired the leak.

Firefighters said some utility work had been done in the area recently, but it’s unclear if that caused the leak.
