Learn More About Two Fallen Heroes

Sitting in Fort Carson’s Memorial Chapel, I learned a lot about two fallen heroes. Captains Joshua Lawrence and Drew Russell died following a rocket propelled grenade attack in Afghanistan in October.

29 year old Captain Joshua Lawrence was a planner. He was described as a person who put the needs of others before himself, especially his soldiers. Captain Lawrence had a quick wit and a good sense of humor.

25 year old Captain Drew Russell was a Red Wings Fan even in Colorado. Everyone liked Drew. He was described as a person who could make a bad situation better. Captain Russell was also a guy who knew what he wanted since he was a little boy. He always wanted to be a soldier and leader.

Captains Russell and Lawrence are among 326 Fort Carson Soldiers who’ve been killed in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Each man leaves behind friends and family.
