Bullying Could Be To Blame For Boy’s Death

An 11-year-old from Colorado City is dead and bullying could be the reason.

?I?m heartbroken,? said a parent from Craver Middle School. He wished to remain anonymous.

He told KRDO NewsChannel 13 his son attends Craver. He said his son and the young boy who died were being bullied because of their race. He said the boy committed suicide Sunday. However, the county coroner said the case is still under investigation.

?The situation has gone from bad to worse with the bullying,? said the father.

He said his son and friends were being taunted with racial slurs and even slapped.

D-70 Superintendent Ed Smith told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the young boy had been involved with bullying.

?I can confirm that that is the case. He was a part of bullying activity. Whether or not that is the reason for this incident, I don?t know,? said Smith.

He said they make every effort to prevent bullying from happening.

?We have bully awareness classes and programs,? said Smith.

But some argue that isn?t enough.

?We were told by the principal of that school that we needed to get used to it because the bullying is going to go on for awhile,? said the father.

If this case is ruled a suicide it will be the second suicide that has happened at Craver Middle School. Another young boy took his life last school year. School leaders said it wasn?t because of bullying.

Grief counselors were on hand all day and will be there tomorrow.
