Colorado Senate Minority Leader Resigns

Colorado Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp says he is resigning from the Legislature to focus more attention on his four children.

The Republican state senator from Littleton announced his resignation Tuesday. It is effective Oct 21.

Kopp’s wife, Kimberly, died in July after a long battle with cancer.

Kopp was elected to the state Senate in 2006 and was elected Senate minority leader in May 2010.

The resignation of Kopp will prompt the Senate District 22 vacancy committee to appoint a replacement. It also will give Senate Republicans time to decide who their next minority leader should be in the 2012 legislative session.
