Double My PC Pain

One Southern Colorado family won’t be downloading freebies anymore, to help keep their computer running smoothly in the future. Tim and Sherry Watson downloaded a program from Doublemyspeed.com. The Watson’s said it was intended to clean your PC registry and make it run faster.

The Watsons said Doublemyspeed did just the opposite. The program made their computer slow to a crawl. KRDO NewsChannel 13 Computer Specialist, Kevin Dennis looked at the program and said to me, “in a number of cases and it looks like this one here, it’s actually putting the spyware virus on the machine and then claiming it needs to be removed.”

It took Kevin three hours to uninstall and run a new software anti-virus program to remove 85 viruses left behind. It’s unclear if Doublemyspeed installed the viruses.

I did contact the company and left a voice mail with the media rep. So far, there has been no response from Doublemyspeed. The company advertises on their website that they received an A Plus rating from The Better Business Bureau.

Computer expert Kevin Dennis reminds you to not install software on your computer unless you’ve done research to determine there won’t be any harm done, if you install it.
