Deadly Accident On Hwy 50 East Of Lamar

Colorado State Patrol is investigating a deadly accident on Hwy 50 about 4 miles east of Lamar, near County Road 13.

The crash happened around 10:15 Monday morning.

The accident involved a 2009 Chevrolet Express and a 2009 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The Chevrolet was traveling eastbound on Colorado 50 when it went left of center, colliding with the side of the Freightliner.

The Chevrolet rolled onto its right side facing west in the eastbound lane. The Freightliner continued westbound and came to a stop on the shoulder.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 23-year-old Joshua Owens of Pueblo was pronounced dead on the scene. A passenger in the van, 28-year-old Peter Kraft of Canon City, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the semi, 44-year-old Gregory Jenkins out of Missouri, was not injured.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered a factor in this accident.

Hwy 50 closed at 10:23 a.m. and re-opened a little after 6:00 p.m. after the state patrol accident reconstruction team finished its investigation.
