Deadly Crash Near Poncha Springs
Colorado State Troopers say a Leadville woman was killed when the pickup she was in rolled off of Highway 50 near Poncha Springs just before 10 a.m. Saturday.
Troopers say Jorge Blas, 35, was going too fast for conditions. He was heading west on Highway 50 when his truck ran off the right side of the road as he went around a curve. Blas over-corrected and lost control. It rotated counter clockwise and slid off the road, slamming into several trees, then slid down a steep embankment and rolled onto the drivers side.
The passenger, Josephine Herrera, 60, was seriously hurt. She was taken to the Heart Of The Rockies Regional medical Center where she later died from her injuries. Blas and two children ages 10 and 15 were transported for minor injuries.
