A 21-year-old being held at gunpoint Wednesday morning makes a daring escape. But the man threatening her life was not far behind.

Sheriff’s Deputies said it started around 3 or 5 a.m. when the woman went to meet her boyfriend in the area of Barnes Road and Powers Boulevard.

Sgt. Mike Schaller said they started to fight and he kidnapped her at gun point. The suspect is being identified as 28-year-old Corey Handy.

Deputies said Handy then forced her into her vehicle and drove out of the area. During the drive, Handy threatened multiple times to kill her.

“The victim had a I’m not going to be a victim’ mentality,” said Sgt. Schaller.

As the car heading east bound on Constitution Avenue approaching Marksheffel Road, the victim jumped out.

She flagged down a 40-year old Colorado Springs woman who allowed her to get into her car.

Schaller said Handy began to follow them. Moments later, he opened fire. Five bullets hit the drivers side of the car. Luckily no one was hurt.

The suspect fled the area and another vehicle stopped to help. That citizen drove all four people to a church near Canada Drive and Constitution and called 911.

Currently, the Sheriff?s Office is in the process of obtaining an arrest warrant for Handy for the charges of First Degree Kidnapping, four counts of Criminal Attempt-Murder in the First Degree, and child abuse. He is a white male, 6?3? tall and 225 pounds.

Handy may be in the victims vehicle, a 1997 Honda Accord, grey with a red hood, Colorado plate 108-RKR. The passenger side window is shot out. He may also be on a black Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle with unknown license plate. Do not approach Handy as he is to be considered armed and dangerous.
