Missing Tortoise Speaks Out On Twitter

A tortoise missing since Sunday from Colorado Springs’ Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is speaking out on Twitter. At least, he’s pretending to.

“ButtiTortoise” popped up on the popular social network site Wednesday afternoon. In his first tweet, Butti said, “Broke out a few days ago. It took awhile to get my shell phone to work.”

Butti claimed he ran away from the zoo after getting inspiration from a missing cobra at the Bronx Zoo in New York City.

“I hope this vacation will help me come out of my shell a little bit. Hope it gets a little warmer out here,” Butti tweeted.

In all seriousness, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo believes Butti was stolen from a popular exhibit on Sunday afternoon. His whereabouts are unknown and there have been no leads on his disappearance, the zoo said.

It’s not known who’s running the Twitter account. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo said they were aware of the account, but didn’t know who was behind it, said Katie Borremans, public relations manager for the zoo.
